In normal eye the lens is clear and transparent and the eye is responsible for focusing light on the retina. Cataract is the clouding of natural eye lens resulting in impaired vision and blurred vision.
The most common reason for cataract is aging, but it can develop due to trauma at birth, due to metabolic causes or as a result of environmental factors.

Surgery is the only intervention that can treat cataracts. Cataract surgery involves removal of the clouded lens and a new permanent, artificial lens implant(IOL) known as an intraocular lens (IOL). The IOL focuses light on the retina, replacing the functionality of the natural lens.
Symptoms of Cataract :
- Blurry Vision
- Halos around objects
- Loss of contrast sensitivity and dull appearance of colours
- Temporary improvement in near vision
- Frequent changes in spectacle power
- Fading colors
- Poor night vision
- Double vision
At Jain Netralaya Painless Phacoemulsification surgery with No stitch no injection (topical microphaco) is performed very successfuly and a foldable IOL is inserted. The IOLs can be of different types monofocal, Toric, and multifocal which reduced dependence on glass after surgery.
